State Lottery
The lottery mission is to generate revenue for its home
state. In support of this mission, technology is vital for
providing and managing a wide range of entertaining lottery
products.
Organizational Challenges:
Like other organizations nationwide, state lotteries are
facing economic challenges and budget reduction mandates. When the
lottery network team began to research replacement options for its
server and storage infrastructure, operating expenses were a key
factor.
The state lottery has one Storage Area Network (SAN) at its
headquarters and another at its disaster recovery (DR) site. "The
organization was paying a little over $1 million a year to lease
storage from EMC," stated Bill Blocher, Account Executive, Insight
Integrated Systems. "Bringing that expense down was one goal as the
lottery team looked for a new SAN." The lottery also has a very
stringent business resumption strategy. The return-to-business plan
includes zero data loss among other requirements, so as the lottery
looked at SAN vendors, synchronous replication was a top
priority.
